(Waldorf, MD., Apr. 27, 2017) – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (4-3) were not able to complete the series sweep tonight, as they fell 11-2 against the visiting York Revolution (2-4) on the second series of their 10th Anniversary Season.
York jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the second off of Southern Maryland’s Pat Misch (0-1), who gave up a two-run shot to Angel Franco in the inning. The wheels fell off for the Blue Crabs in the fourth, as the Revs scored seven unearned runs in the inning, with the Blue Crabs committing three errors. The big blow came on a grand slam from the Revs’ DH Joel Guzman, which closed the door on the night for Misch.
The Revs put up two more runs in the fifth off of reliever Britt Robertshaw, who was making his season debut for the team. Robertshaw hit the leadoff man Bryan Pounds, before walking Ryan Dent and giving up back-to-back singles to score both, extending the lead to 11-0.
York’s starter Frank Gailey (2-0) had the Blue Crabs offense fooled all night long, as he threw six scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and striking out five. Southern Maryland was finally able to plate a run in the eighth inning off of York reliever Jarret Martin. Kalaika Kahoohalahala, in his first plate appearance for the Blue Crabs on the season, singled to left-center field, scoring Ryan Wiggins from second. They picked up another run in the bottom of the ninth, as a Patrick Palmeiro single plated Cory Vaughn for the final run of the game.
Despite the loss tonight, the Blue Crabs were able to take the series two games to one, and remain atop the Freedom Division standings. They will take a one-game division lead into Bridgeport tomorrow, where they will face the Bluefish for the first time this season, and their first road trip of the year.
First Pitch in Bridgeport is slated for 4:05 P.M. as the Blue Crabs will turn to their all-time leader in wins, RHP Daryl Thompson (1-0). He will toe the rubber against the Bluefish starter, RHP Jonathon Albaladejo (1-0), who will also be making his second start of the season.
