WALDORF, MD.—RHP Brett Marshall made his Skeeters debut against the Blue Crabs in Waldorf back on June 30th and pitched an inning out of the bullpen. The righty got the start tonight and threw a quality start, going seven innings and striking out eight to lead the Skeeters to the 5-2 victory.
Jeremy Barfield had a big night at the plate as he homered in the first and fifth innings. He now has three home runs in the series. In the top of the 4th, the Skeeters sent eight men to the plate with Jeff Dominguez driving in two with a RBI Double down the right field line.
The Blue Crabs were down 4-0, and attempted to come back in the bottom of the eighth. RHP Dan Runzler was summoned out of the pen and gave up RBI singles to Eric Garcia and Bryant Nelson to cut the lead in half at 4-2. A couple of batters later, and with the bases loaded, Zach Wilson ended the rally by grounding into a double play.
The Skeeters added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on Josh Prince’s RBI single to bring the score to its’ final of 5-2.
The finale of the series will take place at Regency Furniture Stadium tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 P.M. RHP Daryl Thompson will take the ball to try to salvage the series and lead the Blue Crabs to victory.
