Bridgeport, CT – The Blue Crabs and Bluefish played two today in Bridgeport as Southern Maryland looked to even and possibly take the series following a game one loss to Bridgeport. The doubleheader was formed out of precaution to Post-Tropical Cyclone Hermine’s possible impacts in the northeast. The Blue Crabs swept the doubleheader winning the two contests by finals of 10-1 and 3-2.

Game one showcased the Blue Crabs best as all-star Brian Burres dominated the Bluefish lineup, going the distance of seven innings and allowing five hits, three walks and a lone run that came in the seventh. He struck out two and earned the win in the Blue Crabs 10-1 victory.

LF Alfredo Marte had a hand in four of the ten runs scored as his 2-2 day produced three RBI with Marte scoring two runs. His third home run in as many days came in the fourth inning as a two run shot off Chris Rearick. However, the Crabs outfielder was not the only contributor, Angel Sanchez had a pair or RBI’s in the contest. Eric Garcia, Michael Snyder, Zach Wilson and Jamar Walton all tallied an RBI to contribute to the offensive outpouring.

Game two featured contributions from the top of the order as leadoff batter Gary Brown brought home two runs in the Blue Crabs extra inning contest. Former Bluefish and now Blue Crab Robert Carson got the game two call and tossed four solid innings, surrendering only two hits and a run. Scott Snodgress and Craig Stem came on in relief. The ballgame was tied at two going to the ninth when the Blue Crabs pushed across a run against Sam Gervacio on a Michael Snyder single. Cody Eppley came on to notch the save and seal the 3-2 win, the doubleheader sweep and the series win.

The Blue Crabs travel to York for the start of four versus the Revolution on Monday.
