WALDORF, MD—A night after the Blue Crabs banged out 14 hits, the offense struggled by putting up just five hits on the board and falling to the Somerset Patriots by the final of 5-2.
Southern Maryland put two runners on In both the 1st and 3rd innings, but were unable to score. The Patriots capitalized by jumping out to an early 2-0 lead on the RBIs from Vinny Zarillo and Aaron Eggleston. The Blue Crabs tied it though in the bottom of the fifth on Angel Sanchez’s two-run bomb over the wall in left.
Somerset took the lead for good in the top of the sixth sending seven men to the plate and scoring three runs. David Vidal led things off with a double to right center. A couple of batters later, Carlos Guzman yanked a single to right to score Vidal to put the Patriots ahead. After a single from Scott Kelly, Vinny Zarillo once again came through and smashed a two run triple to right to cap off the three run inning and bring the score to its’ final of 5-2.
Zarillo went 3-5 on the night and was a homerun shy of the cycle. Meanwhile, Alexis Candelario picked up the win on the mound, throwing 100 pitches in six innings of work.
These two clubs will play the finale of the four game series tomorrow evening at Regency Furniture Stadium. The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M
