WALDORF, MD.—Southern Maryland came into the night having banged out 103 hits in their last 10 games and registering a batting average of .323 over that time frame. Notwithstanding, Southern Maryland managed just six hits in their 3-0 loss to the Skeeters Friday night at Regency Furniture Stadium.
The Skeeters got things going offensively in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI triple from Travis Scott to make it 1-0. In the top of the eighth, Sugar Land sent seven men to the plate and scored two runs on the RBI singles by Delwyn Young, and Ricky Hague.
RHP Michael Nix made his second start of the season and went 5.0 innings, surrendering just four hits to pick up the victory. The bullpen combination of Mattheus, Runzler, and Loop pitched a combined 4 scoreless innings.
