CENTRAL ISLIP, NY.—After falling down early in the game, the Blue Crabs scored five runs in the second, and never trailed the rest of the way as Southern Maryland picked up the 7-6 victory over the Long Island Ducks.
The Ducks scored a run in the bottom of the first, but the Blue Crabs came back in the top of the second and scored five runs, while sending 11 men to the plate. Angel Sanchez began the rally with a solo homerun over the wall in left. A few batters later, Eric Garcia stepped to the plate and ripped a two run double to center to make it 3-1. D’Arby Myers, and Gary Brown each drove in runs with singles to cap off the five run innings.
Long Island cut the lead down to one with three runs scored in the bottom of the frame. Mike Blanke stepped to the plate, and drove a two run homerun over the wall to make it 5-3. A few batters later, Fehlandt Lentini pushed a single to right, allowing Anthony Vega to score to slice the lead to one for Southern Maryland.
Long Island tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on Mike Dowd’s RBI single. In the top of the seventh, LHP Patrick Crider was summoned out of the pen for the Ducks and gave up an RBI single to Michael Snyder to break the tie. A few batters later, Jamar Walton singled to bring in another run to make it 7-5.
The Ducks pushed a run across in the last of the seventh, but the bullpen combination of Snodgress, Stem, and Eppley held down the Ducks offense the rest of the way to secure the 7-6 victory.
Angel Sanchez homered for the second consecutive night and in total drove in six runs in the series. The Blue Crabs have now won five of six and will return home to begin a three game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters tomorrow night.
