WALDORF MD.—For the second time this series, the game between the Blue Crabs and the Bluefish was cut short by rain. However, unlike Monday’s game, the teams made it to the eighth inning, making the game official as the Blue Crabs fell 7-4
Bridgeport took the lead early in the first inning with an unearned run after a leadoff single by Luis Hernandez followed by an error on Eric Garcia. Gustavo Molina led off the bottom of the second with a base hit, and Zach Wilson hit a homer to score two runs and give the Blue Crabs the lead. Southern Maryland tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Jamar Walton hit a single to right, Gary Brown advanced to first after being hit by a pitch, and Walton scored on an error by second baseman Luis Nunez to give the Blue Crabs a 3-1 advantage.
The Bluefish scored four runs in the top of the sixth. Jonathan Galvez was hit by the first pitch of the at bat, and Angelys Nina reached on an error by Bryant Nelson. Anthony Giansanti was hit by a pitch, and Luis Nunez hit a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the inning. Luis Hernandez singled to score two more, before Craig Stem entered the game for Tim Sexton. Welington Dotel led off against Stem with a single to score Hernandez and make the score 5-3 in favor of the Bluefish.
In the top of the seventh the Bluefish plated two more runs after a pair of base hits and a two errors by the Blue Crabs. Zach Wilson hit his second homer of the game on the first pitch of the at bat in the next frame and cut the deficit to three runs, but it wasn’t enough as the skies opened and the game was called soon thereafter.
Southern Maryland made a season high seven errors and will now look to rebound and even the series tomorrow night at Regency Furniture Stadium. The first pitch between the Bluefish and Blue Crabs is set for 7:05 P.M. For tickets, log on to somdbluecrabs.com, or call 301-638-9788.
