WALDORF, MD.—Southern Maryland’s right-hander Tim Sexton and York’s southpaw Frank Gailey turned Saturday’s game into a close pitcher’s duel. The game was scoreless until the ninth inning when York scored three unanswered runs, and the Blue Crabs fell 3-0. Sexton threw seven and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six.

The Revolution threatened in the sixth, when right fielder Jared Mitchell walked, stole second base, and reached third on a wild pitch with two outs. Sexton struck out designated hitter Joel Guzman in the next at bat to end the inning without allowing any runs to score.

D’arby Myers singled to right field, and Angel Sanchez and Antoan Richardson drew back-to-back walks to load the bases in the seventh inning with two outs. Gary Brown came to the plate and watched two pitches before flying out on a 2-0 count, stranding all three runners on base. The Blue Crabs collectively stranded eight runners on base in Saturday’s game.

Cody Eppley entered the game in the top of the ninth, getting the first batter out before allowing York to score three earned runs. First baseman Andres Perez led off the rally with a single to center field, and left fielder Kevin

Rivers walked to put runners on first and second. Second baseman Michael Rockett ripped a double down the left field line to score Perez, and third baseman Brandon Chaves walked to load the bases. Next to the plate, shortstop Josh Wilson hit a sacrifice fly ball to deep right field to score Rivers from third. Alex Marquez sent a line drive to right field to plate one more run before Scott Snodgress entered the game and struck out the next batter, ending the inning. The Blue Crabs went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

The Blue Crabs will finish the series against the Revolution tomorrow at 2:05 at Regency Furniture Stadium.
