After a lengthy rain delay, Southern Maryland and New Britain got underway at 9:10 ET for game one of a doubleheader. Southern Maryland was victorious in game one, sneaking by the Bees 1-0. In game two the Bees scored in bunches and coasted to the 7-1 win.
That elusive first win that has escaped the record line of RHP Gaby Hernandez was finally registered in game one, as Hernandez went all seven innings and striking out four. Southern Maryland scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fifth on Eric Garcia’s RBI single to give the Blue Crabs the lead and the eventual win.
In game two, Bees outfielder Anthony Hewitt drove in four runs to send the Bees to the 7-1 victory. Newly acquired RHP Craig Stem was on the mound for Southern Maryland and he gave up five runs against his former team in the third on the Jon Jones two run single, and Anthony Hewitt three run homerun.
Fast forward to the bottom of the fifth, Jon Griffin’s RBI double allowed Jon Jones to score. The next man up, Anthony Hewitt singled to center to push another run across for the Bees who held Southern Maryland to just one run scored in game two and two runs in total on the evening.
