SUGAR LAND, TX— Delwyn Young and Jeremy Barfield led off the game with back-to-back home runs and sent the Sugar Land Skeeters to a 3-1 win over the Blue Crabs on Monday night at Constellation Field in a game that lasted just 2 hours and 9 minutes.
The Skeeters added an insurance run in the bottom of the third when shortstop Ricky Hague drove in Josh Prince with a sacrifice fly.
Skeeters starting pitcher Sean Gallagher pitched a solid six innings giving up no runs on six hits and three strikeouts. Reliever Robbie Weinhardt replaced Gallagher in the 7th and gave up the Crabs first run when shortstop Angel Sanchez hit into a fielder’s choice allowing D’arby Myers to score, cutting the lead 3-1.
The Blue Crabs out hit the Skeeters on Monday night by four, however they left nine runners on base. Angel Sanchez ended the game hitting into a double play eliminating Eric Garcia as Sugar Land’s Derrick Loop picked up his 14th save of the season.
The Blue Crabs are now a season high 15 games under .500. Southern Maryland will face Sugar Land tomorrow at 12:05 P.M. eastern time in game two of the three game series.
