SUGAR LAND, Texas— The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs won their first series of the season against the Sugar Land Skeeters by a final score of 6-4 on Wednesday night at Constellation Field.

With a two-run home run hit by Blue Crabs designated hitter, Michael Snyder, the Blue Crabs got on the board early with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Trying to finish off what they started last night, the Blue Crabs came ready to swing their bats and by the third inning the Blue Crabs were up 6-1.  Zach Wilson, Bryant Nelson, and Jamar Walton lead the Blue Crabs offense tonight contributing six out of the eight hits of the night.

The Skeeters starting pitcher, Barrett Loux struggled in the bottom of the second when he walked the first three batters with no outs, giving up three runs.  D’arby Myers hit a sacrifice fly to knock in Angel Flores followed by an RBI double by Bryant Nelson scoring Eric Garcia and Gary Brown calling for a pitching change.  Loux’s night was finished after pitching one and one-third innings and Jake Hale came in to relieve him.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Skeeter’s cut the lead when Wilfredo Rodriguez smashed a two-run home run making it 6-4. However, Blue Crabs starting pitcher Brian Burres’ dominating pitching performance kept the Skeeters from tacking on any more runs for the rest of the game and they dropped the second game of the series.

The Blue Crabs look to go for the sweep tomorrow night before returning home to Regency Furniture Stadium to begin a six-game homestand.
