SUGAR LAND, TX—The Blue Crabs were involved in another pitcher’s duel tonight, with Southern Maryland coming out on top by the final 2-1 in 12 innings.
Gary Brown ripped his first homerun of the year in the top of the third to give the Blue Crabs a 1-0 lead. LHP Scott Snodgress threw seven scoreless innings for Southern Maryland, while allowing the Skeeters to bang out two hits. Snodgress also did not allow any walks for the first time this season.
The Skeeters pushed the tying run across in the bottom of the eighth on a Ricky Hague sacrifice fly off of RHP Justin Berg. The game went into extra innings, and in the top of the 12th, Fred Lewis scored the go-ahead run on an error committed by the third baseman Patrick Palmeiro to bring the score to its’ final of 2-1.
For the fourth straight game, the Blue Crabs have also out-hit their opponent. Game two of the series will take place tomorrow evening in Sugar Land, Texas. The Blue Crabs will be looking for the series win. The first pitch is set for 8:05 central time.
