WALDORF, MD.— Bryant Nelson received a standing ovation when he ripped his 1,000th hit of his Atlantic league career as the Blue Crabs rode the crest of excitement to a 4-0 victory against the Patriots.
Blue Crabs starting pitcher Daryl Thompson was lights out and had his best game this season keeping the Patriots off the board closing out the series on a gem of a performance. Thompson pitched the most innings this season sailing through seven complete innings allowing just one hit and one walk facing only two more than the minimum batters.
Somerset’s starting pitcher Darin Gorski rolled through three scoreless innings but then got into a little bit of trouble when he gave up three hits and one earned run while loading the bases but Gorski was able to work himself out of a jam keeping the score to 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Blue Crabs kept swinging and they were able to tack on some insurance runs in the eighth inning when Gary Brown and Steve Lombardozzi both singled to put two runners on. First baseman Zach Wilson came up big with a three-run home run to extend the lead to 4-0 ending the series finale.
The Blue Crabs have now ended their four-game losing streak and enter their road trip on Friday on an upbeat note facing the New Britain Bees for three games before moving on to Texas to face the Sugar Land Skeeters. The first pitch for Friday’s ballgame is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. in New Britain.
