WALDORF, MD.—On a wet and gloomy day, the Blue Crabs failed to score at pivotal moments, as Lancaster defeated Southern Maryland by the 5-0 final. Southern Maryland left eight runners on base, including four of them in scoring position. In the bottom of the first and third innings, the Blue Crabs has the first run of the ballgame and were unable to push it across.
RHP Daryl Thompson took the hill for Southern Maryland was tossing a no hitter through 5.2 innings. In the top of the sixth, Josh Bell stepped to the plate and ripped a line drive triple past the right fielder D’Arby Myers. Sean Halton walked to end the day for Thompson. LHP Jeff Urlaub was summoned out of the bullpen, and gave up RBI singles to Mike McDade, Charlie Cutler, and Jeff Kobernus to make it
3-0 Lancaster. Logan Schafer later reached on a throwing error by Urlaub allowing Charlie Cutler to score from third to bring the score to 4-0.
The Barnstormers added one more run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Sean Halton. Meanwhile, RHP Bryan Evans picked up his second win of the season on the hill for Lancaster as Bryan threw six innings of shutout baseball, while also striking out five.
Southern Maryland has an off day tomorrow before hitting the road for a seven game road trip beginning on Tuesday night in York against the Revolution. The first pitch is set for 6:30.
