WALDORF, M.D.—For the first time ever the New Britain Bees and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs played one another at Regency Furniture Stadium with the Bees winning game one by the final of 6-3 in game one of a four-game set.
It was also the return of former Blue Crabs Manager Stan Cliburn, and infielders Jovan Rosa and Craig Maddox. The former Crustacean Nation members made their presence felt as Rosa hit a two-run shot, and Maddox ripped a solo shot over the wall in right to give the Bees a quick 3-0 lead.
Southern Maryland came back and scored two runs in the bottom of the second highlighted by Steve Lombardozzi’s RBI single. In the home half of the third, the Blue Crabs tied it on Gustavo Molina’s first home run of the season.
New Britain pushed three runs across in the top of the fourth. Jon Griffin walked, followed by a back to back hits by Jonathan Roof and Kevin Rivers to load the bases. The next hitter Jon Jones ripped a two-run double to left, followed by an Anthony Hewitt RBI double to bring the score to 6-3.
That was all the pitching staff for New Britain needed, as the combination of Josh Zeid, Brandon Fry, and Craig Stem allowed just five hits, and struck out nine hitters. Additionally, Bees pitching retired 17 of the final 19 hitters faced.
The two clubs will do battle tomorrow in a doubleheader. The first pitch for game one is set for 10:35 A.M.
