WALDORF, M.D.—Southern Maryland came into today’s ballgame having lost five of their last six and looking to beat the Bees for the first time in franchise history. With two games on the slate today, the Blue Crabs won game one in thrilling fashion 5-4, and game two convincingly 8-0.
With the game tied at one in the first game, Eric Garcia stepped to the plate with runner at first and ripped a triple allowing Dziomba to score. A few batters later, Steve Lombardozzi looped a single into left allowing Garcia to score to put Southern Maryland out ahead 3-1.
RHP Cody Eppley came on for the save in the top of the seventh. Two runners reached base, as Brandon Chaves stepped to the dish. Brandon shot a single back up the middle into center to score both Jon Jones and Anthony Hewitt. The next batter, Jovan Rosa drove single into right that allowed Chaves to score to put the Bees out in front for the first time in the game. In the bottom of the seventh, Gary Brown and Steve Lombardozzi both singled. Zach Wilson was intentionally walked to load the bases. The next batter Jamar Walton singled to right to the tying and winning run to send the Blue Crabs to victory.
In game two, the number two was the lucky figure as the Blue Crabs put up a two spot in each of the four innings. LHP Scott Snodgress was the story of the game as the southpaw threw six innings, allowing four hits, and striking out six to pick up his first win of the season. Steve Lombardozzi went 2-2 with an RBI, while Gustavo Molina went 3-4 with two runs driven in. Game one’s hero Jamar Walton, and Eric Garcia each drove in two runs apiece for the Blue Crabs.
The finale of the series will take place tomorrow at Regency Furniture Stadium. The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M as the Blue Crabs look to win their second series of the year.
