Somerset N.J.—After jumping out to a big lead early, Southern Maryland was unable to sustain as they fall in the final game of the road trip 9-7 to the Somerset Patriots.
Southern Maryland scored six runs in the top of the second. Jamar Walton drove in the first run of the ballgame with an RBI Double. A few batters later and two runners on, Steve Lombardozzi drove in two runs with an RBI single to make it 3-0. Steve Lombardozzi, D’Arby Myers and Fred Lewis both drove in runs with singles to bring the score to 6-0 Blue Crabs.
LHP Scott Snodgress was cruising along on the mound as he gave up just one run in six innings of work. Somerset went to work offensively though, scoring eight unanswered runs in two innings. In the bottom of the seventh, the Patriots scored six runs. Both Matt Fields, and Yovan Gonzalez drove in two runs with doubles, while Vinny Zarrillo drove in two runs with a single to make it 7-6 Somerset. In the bottom of the eighth, Scott Kelly ripped a two run single to center to bring the score to its final of 9-7.
The Blue Crabs finish the road trip 1-7, and will return home to take on the York Revolution for a three game series. Game one will begin at 7:05 P.M. tomorrow evening at Regency Furniture Stadium.
