SOMERSET N.J.—For the second consecutive game, Southern Maryland got off to a promising start by jumping out in front, but were unable to hold on to the lead as the Blue Crabs fell to Somerset by the final of 4-1 in game one of a day-night doubleheader.
Southern Maryland took the lead in the top of the fourth on a Michael Snyder RBI single to left. Somerset cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth, going on to score three runs highlighted by a Carlos Guzman two run double into right center. The Patriots added one more run on an Eric Farris bases loaded single to bring the score to its’ final of 4-1.
The Patriots are now 13-0 on the season remain the only undefeated team in the Atlantic League. Game two of the doubleheader will take place this evening at 7:05 as the Blue Crabs look to win their first game of the road trip. RHP Jon Leicester (0-2, 6.00) will start for Southern Maryland, and LHP Jeremy Horst (1-0, 1.59) will toe the rubber for Somerset.
