Central Islip, N.Y.—Coming off their doubleheader split with Bridgeport yesterday afternoon, Southern Maryland began a tough eight game road trip against the Long Island Ducks in game one of a four game series. Long Island jumped out to a 3-1 lead after scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning on the back of Delta Cleary Jr.’s two run double.
Southern Maryland tied the game in the top of the third scoring two runs. Fred Lewis scored on an error committed by Blake Barber. Later in the inning, Michael Snyder would score on the single by Jamar Walton. Long Island took the lead in the home half of the fifth by pushing two runs across, and never looked back. A pair of singles by Cody Puckett and Mike Blanke allowed both Sean Burroughs and Blake Tekotte to score to bring the score to 5-3. Each team would exchange runs late in the game, but the Blue Crabs were never able to get over the hump.
The Ducks and the Blue Crabs will play game two of the four game series tomorrow night. The first pitch is set for 6:35 at Santander Stadium.
