THREE HOMERUNS AND TIMELY HITTING SENDS THE PATRIOTS TO A GAME THREE VICTORY

WP: M. Zielinski (1-1)

LP: J. Leicester (1-1)

TIME:  2:49

(Waldorf, MD October 4, 2015)— Two days of rain pushed back game three of the Atlantic League Championship series.  Once the teams were underway on, Somerset came out swinging scoring seven runs on eight hits, and scoring in spread out fashion to win tonight’s ballgame 7-3.

LHP Matt Zielinski secured the momentum on the mound from the beginning.  Matt went 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking just one.  At one point in the game Matt retired 13 of 14, and 11 straight Blue Crabs hitters.

Meanwhile first baseman Matt Fields was hitting at just .160 in the postseason coming into the night, and with the wind whipping around Regency Furniture Stadium, Fields came to the plate in the top of the first and ripped a two run shot over the wall in left to make it 2-0 Somerset early on.

Fields did it again in his next at bat.  This time with a runner on base, Fields lifted a homer over the wall in right field to make it 4-0 Somerset.  Fields went 2-4 on the night with four runs batted in, and two runs scored.

Adam Donachie ripped a single into center in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-0 Patriots.  Fast forward to the very next inning, Aaron Eggleston led off the frame and smashed a homerun over the wall in right field to bring the Patriots lead to 6-0.

RHP Jon Leicester struggled on the hill for Southern Maryland, going just five innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, while striking out one.

Southern Maryland attempted to make a comeback in the bottom of the seventh.  Reggie Abercrombie lashed the first single for the Blue Crabs since the third inning into left to start the rally.  Two batters later Jamar Walton doubled to put runners at second and third for Keith Castillo.  Zielinski had thrown over 100 pitches at this point of the game, and Keith drove a three run homerun over the wall in left field to cut the lead to 6-3.  The Blue Crabs had just one hit the rest of the game and fell 7-3.

Somerset will have the opportunity to win their sixth Atlantic League Championship tomorrow evening at Regency Furniture Stadium.  The first pitch is set for 7:05.  RHP Tim Sexton (1-0, 0.00) will start for Southern Maryland, while RHP Roy Merritt (2-0, 0.60) will toss for Somerset.  Tickets are still available by logging on to somdbluecrabs.com, or by calling 301-638-9788.  If you can’t make it out to the ballpark, you can catch all the action on allinbroadcasting.com or youtube.com/somdbluecrabs.
