TIMELY HITTING AND GOOD PITCHING KEYS TO THE BLUE CRABS VICTORY

(Bridgeport CT, September 20th 2015)—In
the final Southern Maryland Blue Crabs regular season game, Southern Maryland
scored in spread out fashion and picked up the 8-3 victory heading into the
playoffs.

RHP Shaun Garceau has struggled since returning to the Blue
Crabs.  Going into his start today, Shaun is 1-4 with an ERA of over 11,
having allowed 37 hits, and 29 earned runs.  Today was a different story,
as Garceau went 6.0 innings, allowing just a run on four hits.

Bridgeport’s early run came in the bottom of the first on a
sacrifice fly off the bat of Bryan Sabatella to make it 1-0 Bluefish.

That was the only run scored by the Bluefish on the
night.  Southern Maryland tied the game in the top of the fourth.  In
the top of the sixth, Casey Stevenson scored on an error by the shortstop Matt
Burns to take the 2-1 lead.  Tyler Wagner would score an insurance run in
the top of the seventh on a wild pitch.

After adding a run in the top of the eighth, Southern Maryland
cracked the ballgame open with four runs coming across the plate.  With
two runners on base, Casey Stevenson ripped a double to right center to score
DeJesus.  The third baseman C.J. Retherford committed the third error of
the night by the Bluefish defense allowing Grant Zawadzki to score.  The
next hitter Craig Maddox lashed a double to right center to score Jake Opitz,
and Reggie Abercrombie to cap off the scoring for Southern Maryland.

The top of the order between Zawadzki, and Stevenson combined
for four hits, while Southern Maryland banged out nine hits overall for the
ballgame.

Southern Maryland completes the season with 69 wins, and a
playoff berth after clinching the Freedom Division in the first half of the
season.  The postseason for the Blue Crabs will begin on Wednesday in
Lancaster in game one of the best of five series.  The first pitch is set
for 7:00.
