THOMPSON THROWS A GEM TO SEND THE BLUE CRABS TO VICTORY

(Bridgeport, CT September 17th 2015) — Southern Maryland came into play tonight trying to break a five game losing streak.  Continuing with their seven game road trip, the Blue Crabs defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish by the final of 2-1.

Southern Maryland once again outhit their opponent for the third consecutive evening 10-8.  RHP Daryl Thompson in his last seven outings since August 12th, has allowed 22 runs from the fourth inning forward.  Tonight was a completely different story, as the righty went 8.2 innings, allowing a run on eight hits.  

Both teams were held scoreless for the first four innings.  In the top of the fifth, Jamar Walton stepped to the plate and lifted a fly ball to left allowing to Reggie Abercrombie to score to make it 1-0 Southern Maryland.  

Needing an insurance run, Southern Maryland added one run in the top of the ninth.  Jovan Rosa lashed a single to lead off the inning.  Two batters later Craig Maddox tripled allowing Rosa to score to make it 2-0 Southern Maryland.

Thompson took the hill, looking for the complete game in the ninth.  With two on and two out, Juan Martinez ripped a single to left to score Wellington Dotel to cut the lead to 2-1.  RHP Cody Eppley came into the ballgame and recorded the final out of the game on a ground out of Luis Al. Rodriguez.  

RHP Cory Riordan pitched all nine innings for Bridgeport, allowing two runs on ten hits, and striking out eight.

The second game of the series will take place take place tomorrow evening at 7:05.  RHP David Anderson (2-1, 2.91) will throw for Bridgeport, while LHP Brian Burres (7-9, 4.20) will start for Southern Maryland.
