(Waldorf, MD September 12th 2015) —Reggie
Abercrombie played in both the American Association and the Canadian-American
Association before making his Blue Crabs debut here tonight. Reggie did
not disappoint as he went 3-6, and drove in two runs including the game winner
in the bottom of the twelve inning to send the Blue Crabs home victorious
Southern Maryland tied the game and took the lead in the
bottom of the second. With the Bases loaded both Antone DeJesus and Fred
Lewis drew walks to to score both Bryant Nelson, and Casey Frawley. The
Blue Crabs added another run in the bottom of the third on a Bryant Nelson RBI
RHP Jon Leicester got the start on the hill for Southern
Maryland pitching six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, and not
factoring in the decision. In the top of the fifth York tied the game
with an Eric Patterson double, and Casey Frawley error at short.
The pitching staff for York held Southern Maryland scoreless
for eight straight innings. LHP Rommie Lewis went seven innings, striking
out eight men, while the bullpen combination of Vaughn, Paredes, Judy, and,
Schreurs struck out a combined five hitters, and working 3.2 scoreless innings.
Nick Ferdinand ripped a homerun over the wall in left center
in the top of the 12th to give York the lead, but Southern
Maryland’s bats would finally come alive in the bottom of the frame. With
runners at the corners and two out, Reggie Abercrombie stepped to the dish, and
ripped a double over the head of the centerfielder James Simmons to score the
tying run in DeJesus, and the winning run in Zach Wilson to sent the Blue Crabs
It was the eighth walk-off win for Southern Maryland this
season. The bullpen combination of Santos, Berg, Eppley, and Barham
pitched a combined six innings, allowing a run on just three hits.
The series continues with game two tomorrow evening. The
first pitch is set for 6:35 P.M. at Regency Furniture Stadium. LHP Frank
Gailey (4-3, 2.83) will take the ball for York, while RHP Daryl Thompson (6-6,
3.70) will throw for Southern Maryland.
