Early runs propel Blue Crabs to 4-2 victory over Camden

(Camden, NJ. June 21st 2015) – Early runs were the story of tonight’s ballgame as the Blue Crabs picked up the victory by the final of 4-2 in Camden.

Southern Maryland jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring three runs in the top of the first.  Fred Lewis was back in the lineup tonight, and he led off by being hit by a pitch.  After a Lewis stolen base, Casey Stevenson walked to put two runners on base.  After a Zach Wilson singled, Fred Lewis would score on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.  Gustavo Molina banged out a single to allow Casey Stevenson to score to make it 2-0.  With Zach Wilson at third, and nobody out, Daryle Ward stepped up to the plate and grounded into a 4-6-3 double play allowing Wilson to score to make it 3-0.

In the top of the second, with one out, Jamar Walton would single.  The next hitter, Casey Frawley, singled and that allowed Walton to score on an error by the left fielder Daniel Rockett to bring the score to 4-0.  

In the bottom of the third, Daniel Rockett scored on an RBI groundout to make it 4-1.  Fast forward to the bottom of the fifth where Daniel Rockett led things off with a single, followed by a Jose Gil groundout, and a Michael Rockett fly out to bring Rockett to third.  Brandon Chaves then hit the first triple of the season off of Blue Crabs pitching and at the same time driving in Rockett to make it 4-2.

Southern Maryland’s pitching staff would hold the Riversharks to just five hits on the night.  RHP Daryl Thompson made his Blue Crabs debut and picked up the victory by going six innings, allowing two runs on four hits.  Cody Eppley, Justin Berg, and Erik Hamren each pitched a scoreless inning out of the pen.

Game three of the four-game set will take place tomorrow afternoon.  RHP Brian Baker (2-4, 4.69) will throw for Southern Maryland, and RHP Zachary Clark (1-2, 4.01) will start for Camden.  The first pitch is set for 1:35 P.M.
