(Waldorf, MD., May 12th 2015)— Southern
Maryland came into the evening with 31 hits in the last three games. Tonight
the Blue Crabs used a mix of timely hitting, and good pitching as they win game
two of the four game set tonight by the final of 7-2.
After scoring a run in the bottom of the second, Southern
Maryland scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Zach Wilson led
off the inning with a walk, followed by a Jake Opitz double to score
Wilson. After a Jovan Rosa walk, Jamar Walton singled to left to score
Opitz. A few batters later with the bases loaded, the Blue Crabs leader
in walks Fred Lewis walked to force in a run to make it 4-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Zach Wilson once again started
the rally with a double. Jake Opitz then walked, and that followed with a
Jovan Rosa two run triple scoring Wilson, and Opitz. The next hitter
Jamar Walton hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Rosa to bring the
score to 7-0.
Camden scored a run in the top of the fifth receiving a solo
homerun from Daniel Rockett. The Riversharks added a run on an RBI
Groundout by Zach MacPhee in the top of the seventh to make it 7-2, but that
was all the Riversharks to squeak out on the score board tonight.
RHP Jon Leicester picked up his second victory of the
season, going seven inning, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out
four. Wes Torres struggled for Camden on the hill tonight. The
right hander went four and a third innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits,
while walking four hitters. The combination of Opitz, Rosa, and Walton
went a combined 5-8, with six RBIs, and five runs scored.
Game three of the four game set will take place tomorrow
evening. The first pitch is set for 6:35. LHP Brian Burres (1-3,
4.17) will start for Southern Maryland, while LHP Ryan Kulik (4-2, 4.38) will
throw for Camden.
The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a free Stan Cliburn “Stomp The Sharks” Bobblehead.
