Blue Crabs leave 11 men on in loss against Ducks

(Central Islip, NY, June 8, 2015) – For the fourth straight game, the Blue Crabs score first, but they drop game two of the four-game series with the Ducks by the final of 2-1.

In the top of the first, Zach Wilson reached second base on an error by the first baseman Jon Griffin.  The next hitter, Jovan Rosa, singled to right field to score Wilson to make it 1-0.  The Ducks would answer in the bottom of the second with a run of their own.  With runners at first and second, Dan Lyons walked to the plate and batted in Reegie Corona with a single to center to tie the game at 1-1.  

Long Island would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth after  Lew Ford and Cody Puckett singles to put runners at first and second. Jon Griffin would ground into a 4-6-3 double play, but with two out, Prentice Redmond stepped to the plate and banged out a single to score Lew Ford to bring the score to 2-1.  

The Blue Crabs were held scoreless the final three innings and have now lost three of their last four.  Additionally, Southern Maryland stranded 11 runners on base tonight.  LHP Brian Burres took the loss, going 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, while striking out one.  Eight of the nine hitters in the Ducks starting lineup each had at least a hit.

Game three of the four-game set is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. tomorrow evening.  LHP Wade Korpi (1-1, 7.16) will take the ball for Southern Maryland while RHP Billy Buckner (1-1, 3.17) will start for Long Island
