(Waldorf, MD., May 25, 2015) – Following yesterday’s 1-0 Blue Crabs victory, Southern Maryland scored in convincing fashion this afternoon to beat the Barnstormers 5-0 and complete the four-game sweep at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Southern Maryland got the scoring started early in the bottom of the first. Zach Wilson doubled to left center field and that was followed by a Cyle Hankerd RBI single to give the Blue Crabs an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the third, Zach Wilson once again got the rally started with a single, followed by a Hankerd walk and a Gustavo Molina single to score Wilson to make it 2-0. Two batters later, Lancaster was struck with some bad luck as their starting pitcher, Casey Fossum, left the game with an apparent arm injury. Bryan Morgado came out of the pen and with the bases loaded walked Fred Lewis to score Hankerd to make it 3-0.
The Blue Crabs added a run in the fifth and eighth innings. Daryle Ward scored from third on an error by the pitcher Andrelcyzk, and in the eighth inning, with two outs, Cyle Hankerd laced a single to center, followed by a Gustavo Molina RBI double to bring the score to 5-0.
Shaun Garceau picked up the win for the Blue Crabs by going six innings, allowing just two hits, striking out five and walking three. The combination of Keeler, Barham and Santos resulted in scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Additionally, Southern Maryland pitching held the Barnstormers scoreless in the final 23 innings of the series.
The Blue Crabs have an off day for travel tomorrow and get right back into the swing of things on Wednesday evening as they take on the Sugar Land Skeeters in Sugar Land Texas. The first pitch is set for 7:05.
