Hankerd’s two-RBI day lifts Blue Crabs over Skeeters.

(Waldorf, MD., May 13, 2015) – It was the second straight week in which the Blue Crabs played a home game with a 10:35 A.M. start time, and Southern Maryland did not disappoint the 4,112 fans in attendance.  Southern Maryland beat the Sugar Land Skeeters by the final of 4-2.

RHP Brian Burres picked up his first victory, going a season-high seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three.  The Blue Crabs took the lead early.  In the bottom of the first, after a leadoff walk to Antone DeJesus, Cyle Hankerd would come to the plate with two outs and slap a single into left to score DeJesus to give Southern Maryland the early lead.

In the top of the second, the Skeeters would tie the game on a solo home run off the bat of Chris Wallace.  Later in the top of the fourth, the Skeeters would take the lead for the first time in the series.  Beamer Weems would lead off the inning with a single to left center field.  Delwyn Young would then reach base via an error by Antone DeJesus in center field.  Two batters later, Chris Wallace would ground out to short to score Weems from third to bring the score to 2-1.

The Blue Crabs would answer in the bottom of the fifth inning as back-to-back doubles by DeJesus and Osuna brought the score to 2-2.  Southern Maryland would put up a two-spot in the bottom of the seventh.  Casey Frawley started the inning with a line drive single to center field.  With Frawley attempting to steal second, Antone DeJesus doubled into the left center field gap to score Frawley.  Renny Osuna would drop down a sacrifice bunt to advance DeJesus to third, and the next batter, Cyle Hankerd, would single to left field to score DeJesus and give the Blue Crabs the 4-2 lead.

RHP Erik Hamren picked up his sixth save – his second in as many days.  Game three of the three-game series set for tomorrow.  RHP Jake Hale (2-1, 3.79) will throw for Southern Maryland, while RHP Sean Gallagher (0-1, 1.57 ERA) will throw for Sugar Land.  The Blue Crabs will be looking for their eighth straight win, and their second consecutive series sweep.  The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M. at Regency Furniture Stadium.
