(York PA., May 11, 2015) – Southern Maryland had not had a four-game sweep of a team in 2014. In the early part of 2015, the Blue Crabs complete a four game sweep and win their fifth-in-a-row as they defeat the York Revolution by the final of 5-1.
RHP Shaun Garceau was the big story of this ballgame as he went eight innings, allowing just one run on six hits, and striking out six. Southern Maryland fell down early as York scored the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the second inning. Luis De La Cruz led off the frame with a solo home run. The Blue Crabs would take over the ballgame as they tied the game in the top of the fourth. Cyle Hankerd led off the inning with a walk. Gustavo Molina would then sting a single to centerfield with Hankerd advancing to third, and two batters later, Casey Stevenson would ground into a fielder’s choice, allowing Hankerd to score.
The Blue Crabs would then take the lead in the top of the sixth. Cyle Hankerd, who missed the last four games with a mild concussion, homered to give the Blue Crabs a 2-1 lead. Southern Maryland would put the game away by putting up a three spot in the top of the seventh. With one out, Renny Osuna would double, followed by a Hankerd walk two batters later. Gustavo Molina would then slap another single to center field, scoring Renny Osuna. The centerfielder Brandon Boggs would mishandle the play, allowing Cyle Hankerd to score the unearned run and Molina to advance to second. Craig Maddox would then knock in Molina with a single to right field to make it 5-1, and the Blue Crabs would never look back.
The Blue Crabs offense managed ten hits tonight. In his return back from injury, Cyle Hankerd went 1-3 with an RBI. Gustavo Molina also went 1-3 with an RBI, while Antone DeJesus went 2-4 from the leadoff spot.
